Need something hearty and warm? This lean chili will satisfy! Sneak in additional vegetables like spinach, swiss chard, or diced carrots for a fuller flavor. Adjusting the peppers to suit your palate will increase the “Chili” and keep the healthy markers in place!
Options are vegetarian by adding black beans and taking out the turkey. However, beans take it off the menu for the 21 Day Detox.
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 pound ground turkey
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1⁄2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 cups water
1 28 oz can fire-roasted crushed tomatoes
1⁄2 cup chopped green onions
1 avocado, diced
Heat large pot over medium-high heat.
Add oil and swirl to coat the pan.
Toss in onions and a dash of salt, sauté for 3 minutes.
Add garlic giving it a few stirs.
Crumble turkey into pot and continue to sauté with the onions and garlic for another 5 minutes or until the turkey is no longer pink.
Add the water and tomatoes and bring to a boil.
Reduce to a low simmer and cook for 30 minutes.
Top with green onions and avocado. Serve.
